Are There any Free Rocking Horse Plans?
Web Based Plans
Are there any free rocking horse plans available freely online? Yes, there are. However, in my research these plans were few and far between, as well as being harder to follow than plans I have paid for in the past. It is important to understand that plans that are free online are often incomplete and I struggled to find a free rocking horse plan with a downloadable PDF, which means you will have to do some research and complete the plans yourself.
A prime example is this one by Canadian Home Workshop. It gave the most detailed instructions I could find online for building your own wooden rocking horse, but it still doesn’t have the plans to download. I think it used to, but the download as PDF feature was broken at the time of writing. And a lot of the images within this article were broken, so I wonder how long this will even be up!
It certainly shows the state of free wooden rocking horse plans online right now! Not very good! And there are a lot of articles saying they have ‘Fine Woodworking Rocking Horse Plans’ but in fact having nothing of the sort! Deceptive to say the least!
Youtube Based Plans
So then our best bet was to head over to Youtube. An excellent source of free wooden rocking horse ideas, but just be aware that most don’t come with downloadable plans. This will mean that you will need to watch the video and then come up with your own plans!
The best video I found was this almost hour long epic! It goes over all the fine details of how to make a wooden rocking horse by an experienced woodworker. The downside is that it is an old video that looks like it was filmed on a potato! But if you can get over the slight blurriness of the video, you will find a real gem of a woodworking video.
This one is a good one too (and with more modern video standards!), but the downside is that you will have to buy the accompanying woodworking plans from their website.
How about Paid Fine Woodworking Rocking Horse Plans?
So we worked out that the free offerings for free rocking horse plans kind of suck, right? How about paid ones?
I looked on Amazon, but the rocking horse plans on there were badly reviewed and not worth the cost people were asking.
I also found a free rocking horse plan on Scribd, but the problem is you need to sign up to the service first, which will cost you around $8.99 a month.
What I would recommend is that if you are serious about woodworking, you can buy a pack of plans with a wide variety of woodworking plans in it. This means you can get your rocking horse plans on top of many others (including many fun wood toys your child will love too). This is a much more economical way of doing things.
